4 Sizzling Soy Statistics That are Putting a Damper on Your Health

Here’s the thing: soy has been popular for quite some time.

Soy is one of the more controversial topics that continues to float around like a curious little fly, with a tendency to land on different things, leaving behind contentious “shit stains” of confusion.

Here are four reasons why…

  • TOXIN CONSUMPTION

You are most likely eating a handful of carcinogens (glysophate) every time you enjoy your soy. “Upwards of 90 percent of the US soybean crop is grown using genetically modified seeds (GMOs).”This is just one quote from the mainstream publication Scientific American; one of the hundreds stating percentages above 90% when it comes to the GMOs in soy.

  • WEIGHT GAIN

Do you know what Isoflavones are? They are are compounds found in plants  (phytoestrogens to be exact). Isoflavones are considered to be plant hormones. The Weston A. Price Institute has explored the many facets of soy. Sally Fallon, Mary Enig Ph.D., and Mike Fitzpatrick Ph.D. share…

“Soy isoflavones are endocrine disruptors. At dietary levels, they can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain, and fatigue.”

  • HORMONAL HAVOC

Mary Poppins once sang to us and our children, “A spoonful of soy makes your estrogen down.” I apologize, that was the FDA who sings that tune. Please think twice about soy if you are conceiving a child or currently have children. In Kaayla T. Daniel’s book The Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America’s Favorite Health Food, she states...

“Some of my colleagues have calculated that an infant on soy formula is getting the hormonal equivalent of the estrogen found in three to five birth control pills every day. That’s a lot of estrogen, and this amount is especially dangerous for infants whose very development requires the right hormones in the right place at the right time.”

  • BLOATING & GAS

Most soy products perpetuate a bloated stomach and an ass full of gas. There are many “anti nutrients” in soy such as saponins, soyatoxin, phytates, oxalates, and goitrogens. These little buggers in soy block the absorption of minerals and inhibit enzyme production needed for digestion. This can lead to stomach troubles, bloating, and gas in many individuals.

I am not an expert on soy, but as a passionate health and fitness coach I have read plenty to make me lean towards giving soy a whopping two thumbs down.

There are many food items touted as healthy these days. Many “health” foods are backed by large organizations and we sometimes tend to forget about this fallacy.

Consider these four hazards of soy, if health and wellness are a priority in your life. If those two aren’t, then how about the puffy bloated stomach you have been seeing in the mirror?

As many of you know from my blogs, health is a journey and not a one week destination. Be patient with your practice and good things will come.
